The 10 Most Photogenic Hotels in Mexico

I made a list of the most Instagrammable hotels in Mexico. I have to admit that it was a little difficult because I have many favorite places that I enjoy going to. But if we are talking about photogenic places I definitely think these hotels deserve their place on the list. From the north to the south of the country, Mexico is full of wonderful places. Whether you are looking for beach, jungle or desert these places will surely leave you breathless.

IMPORTANT: This is a list of the hotels that I think are the most photogenic in Mexico. This does not mean that they are my favorite hotels. Visit my travel channel on You Tube for more detailed reviews of the best hotels.

10. The Cape (A Thompson Hotel), Los Cabos

The Cape's location, overlooking El Arco and the skyline of Bahía Cabo San Lucas, makes it a great place to take some stunning Instagram snaps. While the ocean may be too rough for swimming, the waves crashing onto the beach make for stunning scenery. All rooms have balconies or terraces with ocean views and the copper bathtubs just demand to be photographed.

9. Four Seasons, Punta Mita

The Four Seasons Punta Mita is a large resort, so it's pretty easy to find some great photo spots if you spend a little time walking around. My favorite is the lazy river, where you can take some amazing photos of yourself floating around with an inflatable life jacket. The sunset is right in front of the beach, making it the perfect place to take photos during “golden hour.”

8. Intercontinental Presidente, Cozumel

What sets InterContinental Presidente apart from its competition in Cozumel is its beautiful private beach. The crystal clear turquoise water makes it almost impossible to take a bad photo at this resort. It also offers excellent snorkeling and diving, so be sure to bring your GoPro or a waterproof protector for your phone.

7. Cala de Mar, Ixtapa

The location on the side of the hill where Cala de Mar is located, ensures that the 59 suites have an incredible view and plenty of photo opportunities. The hotel has 2 infinity pools and the 3 mountain restaurants have spectacular views of the Pacific Ocean. Each room has its own heated pool where you sit and watch the whales go by if you are lucky enough to visit during whale season (December to March). Cala de Mar is one of my favorite hotels and was voted the No.1 Resort in Mexico by Travel & Leisure magazine last year (2020).

6. Nobu, Los Cabos

The Nobu brand was created by actor Robert De Niro and celebrity chef Nobuyuki Matsuhisa in 2009, but this is the first Nobu hotel in Mexico. I love how the minimalist Japanese design elements blend with the dramatic Baja California landscape. Beautiful wooden bathtubs deserve to be on everyone's Instagram feed.

5. Banyan Tree, Mayakoba

Mayakoba is a gated community encompassing over 600 hectares of jungle, pristine lagoons and beaches for you to explore and photograph. Mayakoba is currently home to a Rosewood, a Fairmont, and an Andaz (Hyatt), but my favorite is definitely the Asian-themed Banyan Tree. From the moment you walk into the spectacular lobby, which is built around a lagoon with a giant tree as its centerpiece, you know you've arrived somewhere special. All villas have their own heated pools and have lagoon or sea views. Perfect for incredible photos while kayaking through the freshwater canals or while having a romantic private dinner on one of the resort's dinner cruises.

4. One&Only, Tangerine

One&Only Mandarina is the newest hotel on the list, just opening in 2021, in Nayarit, Mexico (Rosewood Mandarina will open in 2023). The hotel is designed to be a hidden retreat that blends into the surrounding jungles and palm-fringed beaches. To achieve this, there are individual suites that are tree houses and hillside villas that merge with the lush coastal rainforest. All villas and tree houses feature heated pools where you can take spectacular jungle photos from the comfort of your own room. The hotel has 2 private beaches and numerous cliff-top infinity pools and restaurants where you can enjoy the unforgettable Nayarit sunsets. Every Saturday and Sunday night, polo games are held at the Mandarina Polo & Equestrian Club.

3. Hacienda de San Antonio, Colima

Hacienda de San Antonio is located in the state of Colima and is approximately 3 hours drive from its more famous sister hotel, Cuixmala. The hacienda itself is impressive and consists of 25 individually decorated suites that boast views of its impeccably manicured gardens and the nearby volcano. But what makes it one of the most Instagrammable hotels in Mexico are the activities available to guests. You can choose between a picnic near the forest surrounded by wild horses or perhaps you prefer a luxury picnic or a barbecue by the lake? Private hot air balloon adventures can be arranged or you can also enjoy stunning views of the entire estate while enjoying one of their mountaintop breakfast picnics. It's hard to describe how photogenic this hotel is, so I HIGHLY RECOMMEND visiting the hotel's official Instagram page. San Antonio Hacienda.

2. Viceroy, Los Cabos

The impressive Viceroy Los Cabos was designed by the Mexican architect Miguel Ángel Aragonés and it feels more like the set of a science fiction movie than a 5-star hotel just minutes from San José del Cabo. The minimalist design makes this a truly unique place to take some stunning Instagram photos. The hotel's 8 main buildings are depicted as giant white cubes that appear to float in blue reflecting pools. At its center is the Nido restaurant, which is located in a nest-like structure, where you can eat and look out to sea. The views from the rooms (main photo above) are also spectacular and provide photo opportunities that you won't find at any other hotel in Mexico.

1. Cuixmala

Cuixmala is one of the most photographed hotels in Mexico and has been featured in major fashion magazines such as Vogue, L'Officiel and many other major publications. Originally a private retreat for Sir James Goldsmith and his family, it consists of 4 suites and 6 bungalows set in a 30,000 hectare nature reserve. The house was designed by the extraordinary architect Robert Couturier and it's unlike any place I've ever visited. This I can say is my favorite hotel in all of Mexico. Every corner of this property has been beautifully decorated and designed, so it's no surprise that some of the guests have included Cara Delevingne, Rihanna, Mick Jagger, Madonna, Bill Gates, Tom Cruise and Ralph Lauren.
